Optomap

Our doctors strongly recommend the Optomap retinal screening for ALL adults and children to significantly enhance their ability to detect serious eye conditions such as:

• Diabetic and Hypertensive Retinopathy
• Retinal Holes, Tears and Detachments
• Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma
• Malignant Melanomas, as well as many other peripheral retinal diseases.

The Optomap retinal imaging takes a 220-degree panoramic digital high definition image of the interior part of the eye WITHOUT DILATION, allowing the doctors to view 10X the information previously available.

• The scan is totally safe, with no pain or blurring of vision.
• The screening reveals if any retinal tissue is sick, dying or already dead.
• The Optomap is an exceptional diagnostic tool for children.
• The image is part of your permanent record and will review the image with you during the exam.
• The fee for the Optomap Screening is $39.00.

If eye diseases are observed, additional interpretation and testing may be required, which can be submitted to your medical insurance carrier.  However, you have the option to decline this procedure possibly requiring your eyes to be dilated in order to view the retina to our satisfaction.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask any of our staff or doctors.

Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT)

The OCT scanning device takes high resolution scans of the retina. This technology assists the doctors in treating many ocular disorders including:

• Glaucoma
• Diabetic Retinopathy
• Macular Degeneration
• Other medications that can affect the macula

The scan will be used to compare with future images to monitor the health of your eyes.

Things to know about the OCT

• Painless
• You will not be dilated, and will not need a driver
• Plan to be at Barnes Vision Clinic approximately 30 minutes
• Unless specified, you will not see the doctor the day of the scan

The doctor will review the scan and will call with the results in one week.
